I was disappointed to see Ms. Redcap doesn't actually wear a reed cloak and hood...but tell me, are the sausage fruit real or not? My brain atrophy means I can no longer detect sarcasm/irony/facetiousness, it would seem :(
Great photos GG. Took the same photo of the bats at Skukuza as yours last Nov. Did you get b/s in your coffee too? a small price to pay for the beauty of Skukuza. did you go to the old railway station restaurant and pose on the front of the old Skukuza train too? we did..loved it.. the bridge there at Skukuza reminded us of the bridge in the movie the 'Ghost and the Darkness'
ali, nope - I don't drink coffee. Don't worry, I just can't stand the taste - I'm not one of those anti-caffeine, high-on-life weirdos. I think they'd moved all the tables out from under the bats anyway, so there wasn't much chance of getting poop in my Diet Coke. We didn't actually see the train, I'm sorry to say. We didn't stay there - just stopped for one of the fabulous Kruger toasted sandwiches. Mmmm, Kruger toastie...
Your photos are magnificent, Red. You clearly have a real talent for it. Loved the 'tropic of capricorn' sign out in the dust, and the lioness one. The close up of the giraffe skin could be a gorgeous screen saver.
ariel, sorry 'bout that, chief. It's just a little happy snappy - I spent too many years dragging a full SLR kit and Manfrotto tripod around to want to haul it all over Africa. It is a Canon, though, which most togs I know swear by.
bitchtasm, ha! Great name! To tell the truth, Felix was a bit of a lazy target. I think he'd just eaten.
tony, thanks matey :) No, I've only ever seen them hanging high in a tree. I googled "killed by sausage fruit" and didn't come up with anything, so I'm afraid I thought Bloke was having a lend of me. Glad there's a next book in the wind - tell the good folk at Pan Mac publicity to send me a copy of Silent Predator at the paper - you know you'll get a good review out of me ;)
ariel, what are you on about? Your holiday snaps were fantastic! :)
But please not a meme! There aren't five things about me that are weird, random or interesting. Kath tagged me for one over at Blurb from the Burbs and I haven't done that one either. OK, I did dream about being pursued by giant crocodiles this morning, but that's perfectly normal. Isn't it?
Fantastic! What an intrepid traveller you are! And is there a good zoom on that thing? You seem pretty close to a lot of beasty thingies. Including dung beetles! Which I love. Reminds me of a Janet Frame story.
Love you're comments too. Is like having someone show you through their album... Or slideshow... but without having to eat cheese squares and glace cherries on a toothpick...

thanks dan :)
lonie, not on holiday at any rate ;) Yes, there are really sausage fruit. I just don't believe that they can kill people...
Lovely photos. And that's as close to Africa as I want to get.

river, yeah, I guess it's not everyone's cuppa :)

That title gave me a start! (You know why.) Great photos, esp. your sunsets. I want your camera. Okay, or maybe your photography skills ...
With a pic like that I don't think I need much coaxing.

Lekker pics, Red.
I was reeling off location names while watching the slide show.
Have you ever picked up a sausage tree fruit? They are dam heavy and would certainly kill a little person.
Looking at your pics makes me want to go back to Africa and write another book.
So I will. Thank you.

Awesome pics. You're actually very good at that!
There you go, not the camera at all ... just the photographer. There goes my hope that I will be transformed one day if I only find the right camera!
Tag! You're it ... have tagged you for a '5 things' meme - random/weird facts about yourself - over at my place.

Amazing. Incredible. I was blown away.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/halfheartedhack/2351073187/ That is my absolute favourite, but the Langstrad (sp?) come very close. They are stunning.
PS: I love your hair cut!
